eBooks

All of our eBook products should work just fine within a browser. However, there are some apps/technologies that you can use to make the process of using these eBooks simpler. We also include records for the eBooks we have in our Library Catalog, so you can find them very easily there.

CRCnetBase Collection
The CRCnetBase collection delivers its content in standard PDF files. These files can be viewed via any web browser and they can be saved to your computer/tablet for offline reading. No app required!

Credo Reference
Our Credo Reference eBook collection requires no app! These books are best viewed in a web browser and portions of the book can be saved to your computer for offline reading.

eBrary
Our largest eBook provider, the eBrary has a mobile app developed for iOS devices and the Android platform. When you download the app to your device, you'll have instructions for getting things set up already available to you in the app. If you follow those directions, things should go smoothly. It's helpful to have a few things set up first in order to make this app work with our subscription to the service:

  • The BlueFire Reader app is the mobile app recommended by eBrary for iOS and Android devices for off-line reading of their eBooks
  • A free Adobe ID (Create an Adobe Account). This enforces the copy protection enabled for these eBooks. It is NOT optional.
NOTE: if you use eBooks from your public library's OverDrive service, you probably already have one of these! If not, setting this up will also help you if you use OverDrive's app.
  • A personal account on the eBrary site. This account MUST be set up using a Madonna University connected workstation. It is NOT optional.

EBSCOhost eBook Collection
EBSCO has a collection of eBooks to which we subscribe. These books can be read in your browser or you can download them for offline reading. You'll need to have a few things set up first in order to download eBooks:

  • A free MyEBSCOhost account.
  • Adobe Digital Editions Sofware to transfer books via cable to an eReader device.

Ovid eBooks
Our Ovid eBooks collection is viewable in a web browser. No app is needed to access this content. Book chapters can be saved to your computer off offline reading as web pages or text files.

Journal Databases

EBSCOhost
There is a free app available from EBSCOhost for your iOS and Android devices. This app lets you search our subscription databases and read full text content (when available) on your mobile device. Getting started is pretty easy.

Gale Cengage
