Black History Month: Getting Started

Officially designated in 1976, Black History Month is celebrated in February and focuses attention on the contributions of African Americans to the United States.

Beginning as Negro History Week in February 1926, the celebration started as a way of remembering important people/events in the history of the African Diaspora. 

Including the United States, Black History Month is also celebrated in the UK, Ireland, Germany, Canada, and the Netherlands.
