Animal Studies: Databases

This guide will help students and faculty locate library resources and websites related to Animal Studies topics.

Search Terms to Try

In addition to using keywords (important words and phrases related to your topic) , you can use general subject headings when searching a topic. Below you will find examples of subject headings to use in your search.

  • Animal behavior
  • Animal welfare
  • Human-animal relationships
  • Animal rights
  • Animals Law and legislation

Use Boolean operators (and, or, not) to help narrow or broaden your search. Examples are below.

  • Animal AND human  (AND will narrow your search and tells the database that all search terms must be present)
  • Bunny OR rabbit (OR connects synonyms together and tells the database that any of your search terms can be present)
  • Monkey NOT ape (NOT narrows your search and tells the database to exclude some of your search terms)
