There are three types of annotations you can use in your annotated bibliography. They are:
- Descriptive annotations describe what the source is addressing, what issues are being looked at, and other special features that supplement the text (appendices, etc.).
- Does not include evaluation or criticism of the source.
- Synthesizes prior research about a topic.
- Informative/Summative annotations summarize the content by including the hypothesis, methodology, and conclusion in the summary.
- Does not include evaluation or criticism of the source.
- Summarizes the way in which outcomes have been studied and documented.
- Evaluative/critical/analytical annotations evaluate the content of the source by focusing on strengths/weaknesses and the applicability of conclusions to your research.
- Detailed analysis and critical assessment of the research on your topic.
