Bias: Discrimination embedded in AI systems which lead systems to produce inaccurate, offensive, or misleading information.AI bias occurs when an AI system produces prejudiced results due to biased data or algorithms.
Chat GPT: Chat GPT (Chat Generative Pre-Trained Text model) is an artificial intelligence chatbot that uses natural processing language to create human like dialogue and text. People use ChatGPT for various purposes, such as writing assistance and generating creative ideas. It reads a ton of data from websites, books, and other sources (Chat GPT4 has been trained on 1.76 trillion!), learns how that language works, and then uses that knowledge to output an appropriate response. Reminder! Chat GPT simulates that actions of the human brain, but does not truly understand or act like a human!
Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini: Similar to Chat GPT with the exception that Copilot and Gemini are connected to their respective search engines. This means that either AI will now prompt search results from their search engine as well as providing text based responses. Always fact check, as these tools cannot select fact from fiction.
Deep fakes: Deep fakes are a type of artificial intelligence used to create convincing images, audio and video to trick people into believing someone said or did something that they did not. They are not real.
Generative AI: Generative AI is artificial intelligence that can create new content (videos, images, words, music, speech ) based on a user's prompts. Chat GPT is an example of Generative AI.
Large Language Models : Type of artificial intelligence that have been trained through complex algorithms to recognize, translate, and generate vast quantities of human-like text. LLM's are advanced models that are a subset of Natural Language Processing, and are fundamental to tasks like text generation. LLM's analyze large amounts of data from the Internet to predict the next word in a sequence.
Natural Language Processing : A subfield of artificial intelligence, that focuses on the interaction between computers and humans through natural language. NLP is a broader field than large language models, that uses several techniques to produce and understand human language in useful and significant ways. Applications include chatbots and speech recognition.
Machine Learning : A branch of artificial intelligence (AI) and computer science that focuses on the using data and algorithms to enable AI to imitate the way that humans learn.
AI hallucination: A phenomenon wherein a large language model perceives patterns or objects that are nonexistent or imperceptible to human observers, creating outputs that are inaccurate. In other words, an AI system generates false or misleading information that it presents as factual. For example, an AI might generate a fake news article.
Deep Learning (DL): DL is a specialized subset of machine learning that uses neural networks with many layers ('deep) to analyze complex patterns in large datasets.

Always fact check when using AI! AI is "trained" on large amounts of specific data to learn patterns and make predictions. Since the information AI is trained upon comes from humans, it is prone to the same biases and errors found in human data.
Fact check with AI
1) Cross Reference: If something seems off, check its accuracy using trusted references official websites, or academic publications.
2)Critical Thinking: Is the information already known fact? If AI's response contradicts established knowledge, it is likely made up. In addition if the AI response is too convenient and perfect, it may be worth verifying.
3) Follow up: Go deeper with the response AI gives. Ask follow up questions to the initial answer. Ask the AI to provide citations, sources, or references for its information.
