Madonna University Library is home to four special collections. Academic library special collections are "collections that reflect the university/college mission and cultural history. Selection of materials can be in a variety of formats that support the academic curriculum and research needs unique to the institution" (ALA 2018).
Our law room is a main feature of the library. Open to the public on a first come, first serve basis, this collection holds over 20,000 materials with titles ranging from 1850 to present day. Subjects found in this collection include space law, international law and relations and U.S. law. This collection is for in house use only- items do not circulate and library staff is not responsible for copying or scanning any materials due to copyright purposes.
Our children’s literature collection contains several hundred diverse children’s books. In this collection, patrons will find authors like Sharon Creech and Shel Silverstein, novels including Mary Poppins and Holes and classic picture books like No David! and The Snowy Day. This collection is located on the library floor and items are available for check out.
One of our more unique collections, our Polish language collection contains over 1500 historical and rare Polish language and literature books. Works in this collection date from 1800 to 2024. These books are located in storage, but can be checked out upon request.
Madonna University Library is proud to be home to over a thousand music and spoken word records. This collection consists of vinyl records from 1900 to 1990 with the majority of records from the 1950s and 1960s. Patrons can discover these items on their own using the library’s catalog (https://library.madonna.edu/ ). Records are currently housed in storage and are available to check out upon request.
