Learning Styles

It is important to understand how you learn best! Are you a visual learner, an auditory learner, a tactile learner? Or are you a mixture of multiple learning styles.

Visual Learner:

  • Learns better by watching/reading.
  • Prefers visual objects like pictures, graphs, etc.
  • Remembers things when they are written down.
  • Can memorize and recall information more readily.
  • Uses outlines, flashcards, and pictures to study.
  • Highlights notes and textbooks to group similar ideas.

Auditory Learner:

  • Learns better through hearing/speaking.
  • Prefers to be told directions.
  • Concentrates better with audible music.
  • Summarizes points out loud to help with memorization.
  • Uses lectures/recordings to study.
  • Participates in class discussions and talks about information with others.

Tactile/Kinesthetic Learner:

  • Learns better by hands-on approach.
  • Prefers to have demonstrations, followed by an activity.
  • Needs to be moving while learning.
  • Practicing tasks helps with memorization.
  • Walks around and take frequent breaks while studying.
  • Takes notes and uses flashcards/mnemonics.
