Professors use tests as a way to gauge student learning. These are opportunities to show your professor that you understand what you have learned.
Studying for Tests:
- Find a quiet place to study that will help you relax.
- Plan ahead so that you know when to use campus resources such as tutors, writing centers, or library study rooms.
- Analyze past tests to see what concepts are your strengths and weaknesses.
- Study for small chunks of time, with breaks in between to avoid overloading your brain.
- Create study groups so that you can exchange notes or quiz each other on the materials.
- Use flashcards or take practice tests.
Taking Tests:
- Review the syllabus to see when you will be tested, what type of test is going to be used, and how much of your grade is based on the test.
- Review the test before starting and read directions carefully.
- Keep an eye on the clock so that you know how much time you have left.
- Return to "low confidence" questions at the end of the testing time.
- Review your answers before submitting.
